THE GUNSLINGER – Stephen King
Welcome to the first book in Indy Edition’s Dark Tower Series. Here is some information about the book before you. Page blocks from true Grant Books first editions were used to create this special fine press bound edition. The book has been removed from its original boards, sanded and gilded with a gold foil. Each book has its own special original remarqued page by the original artist Michael Whelan in color, plus a new signature page at the back with its designated limited-edition number inscribed. The endpapers are made from hand-marbled paper by Freya Scott of Paperwilds and are a modern take on the traditional Non-Pareil pattern, imitating the colours and hues of a tempestuous desert scene. Each level of Grants release on June 10, 1982 has been represented in this production in some way. The first,
second and Signed Limited edition have a special place in this production.
The books hard case is made from burgundy goatskin with sections from three .45 Colt Pistol bullets inset onto the front of each board. These spent cartridges have been sawn at angles to
pay homage to the original book cover design of the Signed Limited. The burgundy leather used to recover the text block is reminiscence of the burgundy boards used in the first edition.
The book sits in the right-hand side of a square-backed Solander Box. We used the color black to set off the design but to also pay homage to the second edition black boards that were used.
Gold foil is used on the box and the iconic opening line to The Gunslinger is present on the front of the Solander Box. Its size will match all future books in the Dark Tower Series.
Facing it is a diorama within a Perspex box that captures the opening lines of the book. Sand sourced from the largest desert on earth, The Sahara comprises this masterpiece of artistry. Each diorama is unique, with the scene created by hand using hand-coloured desert sand, 3D miniature printed representations of the Gunslinger and the Man in Black set in resin and hand painted. Discreetly hidden in the sand, for you to find, is the very significant number 19. Each book has the special number hidden in a different place thus making no two the books the same.
In all, there are over 700 individual components in this project. This project took over three years of my life to come to fruition. I am beyond proud of the finished project. I hope you are too. So, I am proud to present this work of art and please
Enjoy; Book One of the series
THE GUNSLINGER.
