Indy Editions was born out of Kristopher Webster’s lifelong passion for books not just reading them, but seeking out the rare and remarkable.
As a dedicated collector, Kris has spent years tracking down fine editions and hard to find treasures for clients, to share his love of the printed word. That same spirit of discovery and craftsmanship now guides Indy Editions.
Every book we publish is treated as an object of art: Carefully designed, beautifully produced, and made to stand the test of time. For us, it isn’t only about preserving stories it’s about creating editions that collectors will cherish, and readers will feel proud to own.
Indy Editions is, at its heart, a press built by a collector for collectors, where passion and craft come together on every page.
WHERE DO I START?
When I was a wee lad or when my King collecting journey began? Or maybe you want to hear about my hobbies and what I do day to day? haha Well, we only have so much space here, so Stephen King and books it is! I was in Grade 9, and a friend gave me a paperback of IT. He said it was the best book he’d ever read and he was right. I was hooked. My parents found out and banned me from reading IT or Stephen King. I could not stop, however, so I read it on the bus, at recess/lunch and anywhere I could. It took me ALL of that school year to finish.
That was it. I was on my journey. I did not really collect until I stumbled upon signed limiteds while trying to complete my 1sts through eBay in the 2000s. I was blown away! SIGNED!?? And with protective cases? Hell yeah! I’M IN! It was not long after that my wife saw a $750 charge for a Dolan’s Cadillac special edition on the Visa AND LOST IT. She banned me from buying books, much like my parents did from reading them! I had to make a choice. How can I get more of these? I was good at sales, as it was my profession, so I sold all my gift editions, got a ‘kitty’ and started a small book selling business (Indy Editions) to fund my addiction. Through good service, hard work, customer satisfaction and honesty, it grew and grew. I NEVER EVER make a client wait. I also love helping collectors.
I started doing term payment plans to help some get books they coveted that they otherwise could not. I started Rare King and Fans of Suntup on Facebook to help people learn, buy and sell in a safe environment. Also, to weed out the sheer volume of fakes that plague our community. As my fascination with books grew, so did the artwork side of it. I studied and worked hard to learn the artists and establish myself into this world as well. Then came a love for Fine Press. The uber high end books that became available blew me away.
I invested time in learning the books, bindings and how they were made. I started to work with Suntup, Lyra Books, Arete, Curious King, Conversation Tree Press and adding others such as SubPress, Centipede Press plus many more. I was asked to speak at conventions as my name grew in the industry and being asked to sit on panels at Comic Con in San Diego was a dream come true. Then I decided “hey… why not make books and publish some TRULY Fine Press King?” So I did. This all led to my new website and here we are.
