Pet Sematary
Another Eagle has landed. I have read my favorite King books many times over in my lifetime, and it was a joy to revisit Pet Sematary again. The characters felt like home, and I missed them as I have not read this one in over three decades! This, I am very proud to share with you and all the goodness that comes with it. The design for this First Edition rebind of Pet Sematary, takes inspiration from the illustrations and remarques by Don Maitz. Gage’s kite flies through the clouds across the front of the Solander Box, which is covered in sky blue lamb Nappa. Leather on-lay bows decorate the string of the kite which has the vulture image as described and illustrated in the book. This intricate work by Ludlow really stands out on this traycase and when I saw the prototype? I knew it must be done. The box is edged with white to exaggerate the light and cheery feel of the drifting kite illustrating the bright sunny day while the inside… shows the darkness that is to come with the horrific events of the book.
Now, we must open the box, and the atmosphere changes abruptly. To the left, you have the original dust jacket, protected beneath the cut out image of Winston Churchill – “Church”. We all know who that is and keeping the theme alive from past Indy productions I found this to be a fitting cut out to focus on. On the right, a surprise sits under the portfolio of Don Maitz’s artwork, and above this, a hessian sack contains the book. The book is cased in chestnut brown goatskin, covered in ‘earth’ into which the title is etched. It has dark, brooding, hand-marbled endpapers from the talented Freya Scott of Paperwilds; red and black head and tail bands, a red marker ribbon and three edges gilded black. Ludlow was amazing in working with me to choose the final look on the book. It took some trial and error to get the ‘right look’ of real dirt and earthy-ness. I do hope you handle it with care as some can come off hence the sack to store it in. It also adds so much to the feel and look of this one. There is an ‘added smell” of dark, damp earth. I have not seen a book done in something like this before and I feel it embodies the book through and through.
I started Indy as a brokering company and as these books take shape and grow and mature, I am now proud to be publishing a very real Stephen King in 19: Revisited. See the tab “INDY’S TREASURES” to learn more. Pet Sematary was a passion book as are the Dark Tower books I also make. I thought Don Maitz knocked it out of the park, and I really hope you guys feel the same way. Making these books has been a dream come true and as long as they are loved, and you guys keep taking them? I will keep making more.
Now please have a look at the Sematary…The Pet Sematary.
