DIFFERENT SEASONS – By Stephen King

Different Seasons comes to you not as a single volume, but as four individual books.  Each of the stories has a subtitle, and these have been followed to influence the design scheme.  It was very important to incorporate these themes of the seasons into this design.  The name of the book had to be honored and this was the right way to do so.

The theme is the seasons which are clearly represented on the outside of the Solander Box. The box is covered in black goatskin, with siltex sides and a black suedel interior. The books themselves have goatskin cases that have been blind embossed using patterns that are indicative of the season that they represent. The edges of the books are ink sprinkled in a colour that chimes with the season, and each has a marker ribbon and printed marbled endpapers, designed by Freya Scott of Paper Wilds.

Simple and Elegant

Beneath the books sits the portfolio of mages, four for each book. These have also been ‘tipped in’ to the stories themselves for a unique touch. The illustrations have been specially commissioned for this project and are by the wonderful Erin Wells.  I have long been a massive fan of Erin’s work since I first laid eyes on IT.  Her artwork was my favorite in the special limited edition from Cemetery Dance.   Each book has a full color, two page remarque of original artwork by Erin in addition to all the new artwork of each of the novellas.   As with Indy’s first book, IT…  homage is paid to the original iconic dust jacket which is inset under glass on the right side of the traycase.  As always, the highest quality materials go into making this and other Indy productions as luxurious as possible.

This edition was a must do for me. While I loved all the stories presented in Different Seasons, Shawshank has a special place in my heart as it’s my favorite novella of all time.
